Each week during the summer we have Sunday School for mixed ages up to grade 8. Activities are geared toward the interests and abilities of each individual. This is followed by a picnic lunch and an excursion as closely related to the topic as possible. The Sunday School invites anyone to join us for these fun adventures.
Our topic for the summer is "Following Jesus' Footsteps" to coincide with the questions being asked in the worship services We each made a pair of 'Jesus boots' (sandals) and cut ouround our feet for our banner.
July 6 - We celebrate the beginning of Jesus' ministry with the beginning of summer. We went to the ROM to discover many more beginnings and cycles of life. Our question for Sunday School was "What did Jesus do when he was confronted with injustice?" We joined a petition by sending our picture of our finished t-shirts, to protest the use of forced labour, including child labour in the cotton fields of Uzbekistan.
July 13 - Jesus was a "Tekon" (pronounced 'taycone'). We got a better understanding of what that meant by making bookends using wood, paint and clay. This was followed by a trip to harbourfront where we made Chinese kites and watched a glass blower at work among other things.
July 20 - Jesus went to the Lake. We will see a slide show of the 'Sea of Galilee' including a boat that was in use at the time of Jesus. We will retell the stories of Jesus' time on the lake and on the shore. Our outing will be to Kew Beach at the invitation of Sophia and her mom. Bring lunch, swim suit, sunhat, sunscreen... and get ready to have a good time.
July 27 - Jesus is Food for the Hungry. Our lesson will be hands on "Stone Soup" so please bring a veggie for the pot. Our outing will begin with handing out extra sandwiches that you bring in addition to your own lunch and delivering food to Scott Mission. Final destination TBA - suggestions welcome.
Aug 3 - Our stone soup from last week will be used as part of the service followed by a trip to Horse Capades.
Aug 10 - "We cannot do it without God; God will not do it without us" ... a good motto for a farmer!
This Sunday School lesson will be followed by a trip to Riverdale Farm.
